    FNR008 - Shot Not - There's Still Time

Out of the ashes of The Sweaters/WireHangovers/WhateverYouWannaCallThem comes another band that is probably a little bit better, SHOT NOT. This is Long Island punk. Running the gamut between songs that sound kinda like Cheap Girls and some that sound like more straight-up pop-punk, this is a summer EP. It's for drives around the block to 7-11 with your friends when all you need is just a fucking Slurpee and you'll be alright.

FNR007 - Miles Nighthawk! - Bears, Bats & Beautiful Girls

Miles Nighthawk! - Bears, Bats & Beautiful Girls

MILES NIGHTHAWK! is the musical moniker of one Nathan Romano, a resident of Greensboro, NC and one of the coolest kids Ghost Mall has ever met. As it turns out, he opened for us while on our tour this Spring and we fell head over heels for his quirky little songs about love and loss. One of the other bands that night summed him up perfectly: "Daniel Johnston plus comedy and minus the mental illness." This kid is for real.

    FNR006 - Anthony Parks - A Treatise on Substance

ANTHONY PARKS makes beautiful music, plain and simple. Thirteen songs of complex acoustic guitar work and melodic vocals make "A Treatise on Substance" one of the best records we have ever put out. Don't believe me? Download the album.

    BB-FNR002 - Ghost Mall - Live n' Local Session

Ghost Mall - Live n' Local Session

I suppose this isn't technically a Basement Bootleg but whatever. These are three acoustic tracks from a visit we made to our campus radio station, 88.7 WFNP The Edge, in October. There is a show called "Live n' Local" that interviews bands and stuff. They were kind enough to give us a copy of the show as we have it here for your listening pleasure.

    Tracklist
    1. 40 Nugs (Acoustic)
    2. Balloon Ideas (Acoustic)
    3. Johnny Appleseed (Acoustic)

All tracks written and performed by Ghost Mall. Recorded on Live n' Local on October 31, 2009.

Thanks to Nikki Gertner and Sarah Fine.

Released by Friendly Neighborhood Records, 2010.

FNR005 - QUARTERBACKS & John Warren Present A Symbiotic Split

QUARTERBACKS and John Warren Present A Symbiotic Split

QUARTERBACKS is the music project of Maddie and Dean that since this has been recorded is sadly mostly defunct. But their fun little twee pop tunes are here in acoustic form as opposed to electric guitar plus snare and hi-hat combo, to better complement Mr. Warren.

JOHN WARREN has the honor of being the first artist ever released by FNR. The songs on this particular release are older than those on Survival Songs but still display an earnestness that can be found in all of his music.

Both John and Dean are two of the most prolific songwriters around. FNR will soon be releasing John Warren's full-length Drink Less, Sleep More and for more of Dean's music check out Minor Constellations and Ken Griffey Junior.

    FNR004 - Wood Burning Stoves - EP

Before you get into this EP I just want to apologize for disappearing. But FNR is back in action. We have overcome our technological diffficulties. Big things in store.

    Love,
    Pierce

    Wood Burning Stoves - EP

According to the Farmer's Almanac, the winter of 2009 - 2010 is going to be the coldest and snowiest one we've had since 1993. But fear not--Wood Burning Stoves' latest EP will keep you warm (and it isn't just because of the name). Jangly guitars, catchy tunes, and emoting lyrics make a blanket you can hibernate under until the sun shines again. -Nikki Wertheim

    SS-FNR002 - Sunshower Orphans - Polly Anastasia

    Sunshower Orphans - Polly Anastasia

Sunshower Orphans is one of my favorite bands. It is only fitting that my favorite song is the a-side of this digital single. Sure, there may be a lot of bands doing the whole Loveless worshipping wall of sound type thing. But this isn't hero worship. This is learned pop prowess. "Polly Anastasia" is shoegaze at it's finest. Just wait until the ba da ba's kick in.

2/4/10 Update: This is no longer available on FNR because it will coming on on 7" in the near future. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    BB-FNR001 - Ghost Mall - Smiley Art Bootleg 10.17

Ghost Mall - Smiley Art Bootleg 10.17

The first entry in our Basement Bootleg series. These recordings come from the most recent show in the basement of the Smiley Art Building on our campus. No cops. Just rock. Seven tracks of Ghost Mall-y goodness. This is pretty rough but listenable. Enjoy.

FNR003 - Fire to Wood - Upstate Revelry

Fire to Wood - Upstate Revelry

Fire to Wood is Mike Godici. He is a ramblin', travelin' man. At this very moment I have no idea where he is but I'm never surprised to hear that he's wandering around this country of ours. His music is for riding across state lines in a kind stranger's car. Travel-worn, cigarette stained front porch acoustic folk songs for loving and living in squalor.

    SS-FNR001 - moon trees - gris/dogjoy

    moon trees - gris/dogjoy

Synth, samples, and static remind us that when words fail, music explains things unspoken. Moon Trees' first digital single will lull you into an anxious sleep or keep you awake and thinking. The words "beautiful" and "free" now have a soundtrack.

This is FNR's first release in our digital single series. I couldn't be happier having the inaugural release come from one of my closest friends (and band mate in Ghost Mall), Alex Letourneau.

FNR002 - The Wire Hangovers - We All Know You Got This

The Wire Hangovers - We All Know You Got This

Finally some new songs from the band formerly known as The Sweaters! Brian Deodat, Jon Greco, Tom Hanley and John Warren (Yep, same guy) have crafted an EP of perfect suburban punk rock gems. These songs were born from conquering frustration and regret. They are the realization that yeah, it can only get better.

    FNR001 - John Warren - Survival Songs

Here it is folks, our inaugural release. I couldn't have asked for a better way to begin.

    John Warren - Survival Songs

What is there to say about this record? Honestly, I don't think I could say enough. This is music in it's rawest form. A man with his guitar sorting himself out between chords and broken strings. This is a record about living and almost giving up. This is a record for your closest friends to throw on as the night is winding down and your buzz is wearing off. This record will say to them all the words you're too embarrassed to slur.
